Aloha and welcome to the second Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction. It is my pleasure to once again put together, what will undoubtedly be a fun and exciting event. With the generous support of Quiksilvers' Silver Edition, we look forward to this being a well attended, record-setting, unique auction, unlike any others.
Surf auctions have become a gathering of the tribe and a central place to exhibit the cultural artifacts of our sport. Allan Seymour continues to host Southern California's most well received and successful auctions. New auctions are planed for the East Coast and regular events in Australia are well attended. Two years ago we held the inaugural event here in Hawaii and the time has come to do it again. The first auction held in 2001, was a phenomenal success. We generated over $230,000 in sales and were able to donate $10,000 to the Hawaiian Life Guard Association, Junior Guard Program. I am happy to report that the Junior Guard Program will once again be the recipients of funds raised by this years auction. So, not only will you have a good time, but it is for a good cause as well.
Speaking of good times, the pre-auction party held last time at Dukes Restaurant, on the beach in Waikiki, was so well received, we will be repeating the affair. In attendance were legends and luminaries and most if not more will be back again! QUIKSILVEREDITION will insure you are welcomed in true Hawaiian style.
A lot has transpired since the first auction. 9/11, down turn in the economy, war with Iraq and the question of what lies ahead. We feel that Hawaii is the safest, best place in the world to be at the moment! What else could be more fun than to ride some south swells, share the history and camaraderie of our sport in a social setting and get a chance to admire and bid on a bit of surfing memorabilia? If there ever was a time for another great auction, it is now!
As you can tell, it is my intention to make this not just an auction, but a happening social event as well.
We set the standard in 2001 and hope to raise it for 2003. We will once again be associated with the "Hawaii's All Collectors Show 2003", which will be going on adjacent to the auction site and all registered bidders will receive free admittance to the show. This is an annual gathering of over 200 vendors featuring every kind of collectable imaginable. They have surf items, Hawaiiana, toys, furniture - you name it and you can probably find it.
The surf auction itself will feature a mix of surfboards, surf collectibles, art, Hawaiiana and other assorted items. The "silent auction" will future lower-priced items such as movie posters, magazines, Hawaiian knick-knacks, photos and unique surf items among other things. All items offered will have "a touch of Hawaii", to insure you can find something with an island influence.
As was the case in 2001, in addition to an excellent collection of items, some of surfing's biggest legends will also be in attendance at the auction, offering up and personalizing some of their own most valuable pieces. Big wave legends such as Greg Noll, Ricky Grigg and Fred Hemmings will be present along with world class shapers Joe Quigg, Dick Brewer and Ben Aipa. Stars of the 70's shortboard revolution such as Gerry Lopez, Reno Abelliara and Barry Kanaiaupuni will be there along with today's top pro's.
So, we invite you to once again attend the Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction. The only auction of its type. Come visit us in Hawaii and enjoy the warm Hawaiian hospitality. Take a vacation, ride some waves, buy or sell some cool surf stuff and above all have fun! We look forward to welcoming you to our Islands!

Aloha,
